Where did it come from, you say?
Well, some folks say it came from New York…
Others say it came from West Philadelphia in the early 80s…
In fact, University of Pennsylvania Professor of Linguistics, William Labov, has one of the earliest recordings of the word “joint”, which has mutated into the word we know today…jawn.
